Reasonable House Rents
Sir, —1 would like to know what percentage on their outlay Mr. Savage would allow house-owners. What percentage does he think fair? All my life I worked in the country to earn my own living and to save enough for old age—to b l * independent, and not living on others. Now I ant old I have my own lions*’. When the last inmates left it cost me £l5O to do tlie house tip after them. The present tenants assure! me that they would well look after it, that there were no children, ami no dog. When they got possession they installed another family and the pet dog. and. in,stead of five persons in all, I find there are nearer 2' there.
Surely I ought to get enough to pay for board out of it, but when rates, insurance, water-rate, upkeep and damages are paid for, I find all I have is worry. And they think they are paying a high rent. Now, how am I to live? My only course is to turn the tenant out and let tin* Government build houses for these families. —I am, etc., FAIR PLAY.
