Victoria Memorial Unveiled (From “The Dominion." May 18, 1011.) The weather was fine and sunny for the unveiling of the Queen Victoria Memorial in the Mall before the gates of Buckingham Palace. Crowds surrounded the palace for a distance of half a mile. . The books of Gabriele d’Annunzio, the Italian novelist and dramatist, have been placed on the Index Expurgatorius by the Vatican authorities. Word of the sinking of the little coasttai steamer Wairatt through collision with s.s. Himitangi in the Manawntu river was received in Wellington last night. 4 While the airship Deutschland was leaving the shed at Dusseldorf with ei"ht passengers, a violent gust of wind swept UP. causing it to drop on the roof of a hall. The airship was wrecked but all the passengers were rescued.
