' Mrs. Cook presided nt the recent meeting of the Tawa Flat Women’s Institute. Visitors were welcomed, and three new ; members nominated. Mrs. Hogg won ■ first and second prize in the chrysanthemum competition. Mrs. Murphy acting as judge. Mrs. Cook was elected as delegate to attend the Dunedin conference. A demonstration on the making of an eiderdown quilt was given by Mrs. Brown, a beautiful bouquet being presented to her in appreciation. A vote of thanks was accorded Mrs. Carman for her splendid report of the Para pa ran rau meeting. Hostesses for the afternoon were Meedames Hogg and Lightfoot, and Miss Rowell. Parewanui. The monthly meeting of the Parewanui Women’s Institute was held in ‘ Apa House” recently. The president, Mrs. Tattle, welcomed visitors from Bulls and Sanson. Mrs. Crosland read a report on tlie recent half-yearly council meeting. Mesdames Hendry and Tricker judged the competition for the best-arranged programme for the year. The results were: Miss IL Russel, 1; Mrs. Russel. 2: Mrs. Tattle. 3. Mrs. Drew, Sanson, gave a demonstration of beaten brass work. ■ Tinui.

A meeting of the Tinui Womens Institute took place in the Tinui Hall recently, Mrs. S. O’Hara being in the chair. The following officers were elected : — Vice-presidents, Mrs. Street and Mrs. E. Schofield; welcoming hostesses for new members, Mrs. Carman. Mrs. Voss; stallholder, Mrs. Perry; competition hostesses, Mrs. Mac Alister, Miss C. 0 Hara. During the afternoon a play reading was given by Mesdames I. Speedy, Street, and S, O’Hara. The competition "The Best Bloom m Mv Garden” was won by Mrs. Horsbriigli. while Hint for the "best darn in word” was won by Miss Squire. The hostesses for the day were Mc.idames Barnett and Collerton and Miss Squire. Opaki. The attendance nt the monthly meeting of the Opaki Women's Institute, held at’ tlie residence of the president, Mrs. ■Wingate, was affected by unpleasant weather conditions. However, a very pleasant afternoon was spent by those present. A report of the Bush-Wairarapa Federation meeting was head. Miss 0. lorns gave an account of 'he life and literary work of James ,Cowan, tracing his development and emphasising tfie unusual outlook revealed by bis writings. Fenemor, first. A demonstration on crochet and tatting was given by Airs. Jarrett, who also exhibited a number of crochet articles, which were much admired ny members. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames E. J. Wright, A. Donald, and C. P. Jarrett. Manga weka. There was an unusually large attendant,' at the May meeting of the Mangawckii W.I. Members decided that Mangaweka should be represented at file Dominion conference, and a delegate will !>e chosen next month. A fid. "bring and buy” will be held at the June meeting to pay for heating tlie ball during winter. Mrs. Rush, Aramoho, demonstrated the making of satin cushions, tinsel paper pictures and brooches, and modelling ot dolls with papier mache. She also show- j ed members how to make plaster casts of dolls’ faces. The team for the Rangiwnliia drama competition entertained with a dress rehearsal of their play. "Suppressed Desires.” There were three competitions. Mrs. Pairman’s being the only entry for the bowl of flowers. For chrysanthemums, Mrs. Pederson was first, Mrs. Pairmau second, and Mrs; Sal: third ; for pikelets, Miss Zohs first, Mrs. Ince second, Mrs. Williams third. The hostesses were Mesdames Guthrie, Pairmail, Petherbridge, C. Reilly, and IL Reilly. Mangala inoka. The Mangatainoka W.I. held their meeting on a recent afternoon, Mrs. Ross presiding. After some discussion it was decided to send no delegate to the Dominion conference, the motion being lost by one vote only. Mrs. Harrison, Pahiatua, gave an interesting demonstration of the making ~f miscellaneous articles, and she exhibited numerous examples. As usual the competitions were keenly entered into, especially in the cookery I section, which was for shortbread, and was won by Mrs. Cook. Mrs. Purvis, jun., was placed second, and Mrs. Michael third. An excellent report of the Bush-Waira-rapa council meeting was read by Mrs. L. Rusden. The hostesses were Mesdames Holthani, Skilton, and Swanney, jun. A written competition was won by Mrs. Waldman. Pioneer Club.

The monthly meeting of the Pioneer Club Women’s Institute Circle was well attended. The programme opened with two solos played by Mrs. Bews, followed liy some songs by Mrs. E. F. Hollands. Miss Evelyn Goldsmith entertained with two monologues, with Mrs. Lundins playing the accompaniments. Madame Bligh contributed some humorous stories, all these items being much enjoyed. A "bring and buy.” to aid federation funds, resulted in a satisfactory response. Afternoon tea was served. Sanson. Tlie president, Mrs. A. K. Drew. sided over tlie monthly meeting of the Sanson 'Women’s Institute. Mrs. Drew referred to the death of Mrs. G. Burrowes, and as a mark of respect members stood in silence. The president extended a welcome to the visitors, Mrs. Will, Miss Will (Rongotea), Mrs. Olliver (Woodville), Mrs. Jones (Feilding), and Miss M. Francis' (Kakalii).

It was decided to suggest to the New Zealand Federation of Institutes that July should be the month for the annual conference to lie held at Dunedin.

Mrs. J. R. Bowater presented her report on the annual council meeting held in Palmerston North. Mrs. W. J. Rowan reported on the conference she had attended in Feilding with reference to the Sarah Anne Rhodes Scholarship, and it was decided that, the Sanson institute take three courses. A vote of thanks was accorded the delegates. Mrs. Drew thanked the committee and members for assisting to make the recent flower show such a success.

A demonstration on smacking was given by the president. Miss McFarlane and Miss Peattie entertained with various games. The competition to represent a town in tlie North Island was won by Miss A. Corrigan. A competition, "Parts of tlie body,” was won by Miss L. Gedye. After the roll-call, a number of riddles were given, which caused mueli amusement.
