THE P.E.N.

Farewell to Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Andersen Mr. Johannes C. Andersen, who will be the New Zealand delegate to the annual conference of the P.E.N. at Buenos Aires, and Mrs. Andersen were guests of honour last, night at a farewell evening held in the club rooms in the T. and G. building. The rooms were beautifully decorated with hydrangeas, chrysanthemums and iceland poppies, and warm radiators threw out a cheery glow, making one forget the somewhat chilly conditions out of doors. The hosts and hostesses for rhe evening were the president of the New Zealand branch of the I’.E.N., Dr. G. H. Scholefield, and Mrs. Scholefield and Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Currie. When the guests of honour arrived, the president’s daughter presented Mrs. Andersen with a charming bouquet. During the evening several musical ami vocal items were given and “bonvoyage” speeches were made by Dr. Scholefield and Mr. Alan Mulgan. All present, took the opportunity of wishing Mr. and Mrs. Andersen the best of luck for their trip. The evening coneluded with the serving of supper. Au apology was received from the Under-Secretary for Internal Affairs, Mr. J. IV. Heenan, who expressed the pleasure of the department at the selection of Mr. Andersen as the delegate to represent New Zealand. Those present included Mr. J. A.
