CHARGE AGAINST SEAMAN
Magistrate’s Court Cases Cases in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday were dealt with by Mr. E. D. Mosley, S.M. A seaman, Albert Bowen, alias Taffy Jones, aged 54, was remanded until May 21 on a charge of stealing a rug valued at 15/- from T.ve Guen Young. Bowen said he would plead guilty. He hnd just come down from the country where he had been working, and had been on a heavy drinking bout. “.In this case tbe rug was stolen from a car parked in Taranaki Street, between noon and 1 o'clock on May 12,” said Senior-Sergeant J. Dempsey. He asked that, af> the police were investigating three other thefts, Bowen should bo remanded for a week. Sent to Roto Roa “A terrible list!” remarked the magistrate, on perusing the record of William John Wade, who pleaded guilty to hi.? fourth statutory offence of drunkenness. “How old are you, Wade?” “Fifty-eight, your Honour.” replied accused. “Ever been to Roto Roa Island? —- “No.” ■ “Stand down, we’ll have you examined. ’ Wade was convicted, and sentenced to be detained in the inebriates’ home on Roto Ron Island for two years.
