Large Decrease in Shipments MORE CHILLED BEEF SENT The outstanding feature of the - Meat Board's returns covering the exports ot frozen meat during the seven months ot the 1935-36 season ended April 30 is the very substantial decrease of lamb, mutton, and frozen beef, compared with the shipments for t he corresponding period ot last season. Exports of lamb decreased by 676,373 carcases, mutton by 141,674 careases. and frozen beef by 67,652 quarters. C i the other hand, shipments of chilled beef increased by 52,5i0 quarters, and pork by 30.630 carcases. The following table gives details of t.ie shipments of frozen meat for the seven months ended April 30. tlie totals for the corresponding period of the 1934-3 u season being shown for comparative purposes:—
In addition. 80,985 quarters of chilled beef (79,383 for London and 1602 for Southampton), an increase of 52,570 quarters, and 117,4i>*> bags of boneless beef, a decrease of 5349 bags, were exported during the seven months ended April 30. Ewe Killings Nearly Halved. The most interesting feature of the return of killings for export during the last seven months is the heavy decrease in ewe mutton. Killings of ewes totalled only 539,216 carcases, compared with 1,009.373 careases during the seven months of 1934-35, a decrease of 470,157 carcases. Killings of wether mutton at 958,055 carcases show an increase of 121.995 carcases. Lamb killings, totalling 7.276,754. decreased by only 68,601 carcases. Killings of pork totalled 547,724 careases, an increase of 90.640. Total killings for export during th? seven months were as follow, those for the corresponding period of 1934-35 being shown in parentheses :—Chilled beef (quartersl, 53.613 (28.415); frozen beef (quarters), 103,346 (164.556) ; wether mutton (carcases), 958,055 (536.060) ; ewe mutton (carcases), 539.216 (1,009.373) ; lamb (carcases), 7,276,754 355) ; pork (porkers), carcases, 347,53 S (332.443) ; pork (baconers), carcases, 200.186 (124.641); boneless beef (freight carcases). 281,960 (143.241); sundries (freight carcases), 265,491 (213,915). Stocks on hand in cold storage in New Zealand ns nt April 30 show fairly large increases in lamb and pork. Stocks of frozen meat loaded into vessels not departed from New Zealand at.
