REPERTORY SOCIETY

“Richard of Bordeaux” Repeated “Richard of Bordeaux,” Gordon Daviot’s famous historical drama, was acted by the Wellington Repertory Theatre for the second time on Saturday night, at the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall, drawing a large audience. The acting was even better than it was on the first night, Mr. G. H. A. Swan dominating the whole play with the excellence of his acting, and the remainder of the long cast fitting their parts perfectly. . Some attention, however, could be profitably paid to the costumes of Oxford when he arrives from the field of battle, and of the king after his ride from the Irish Army. They do not give the proper impression, being much too stainless. Mrs. Craig Mackenzie again gave au impressive portrayal of the queen, her acting when she is being overcome by the plague being very fine. Vivian Rhind repeated his excellent performance as the Duke of Lancaster. Maudelyn, played by Alan Howard, deteriorated a little, “acting” his part instead of losing himself in it. The magnificence of the costumes and setting again won unstinted admiration. A needed infusion of spirit was given by the players in the council chamber scene and the right tempo was maintained throughout the play. The Repertory Society has achieved remarkable results considering the handicap placed upon it by the dimensions of the stage. With more depth to work in. the performance would probably be up to professional standard; as it is, it has been better than some professional companies could do it. The play, will be repeated every night until and including Thursday.
