Do Not Neglect Your Neck —lt Betrays Your Age

(By

Lorelei. )

The colour and contour of a woman’s neck tell her age more plainly than anything else. Of course, one sometimes sees the necks of quite young girls which tell a tale of hot suns and drying winds and an utter disregard of appearances, but a neck, as one grows older, is the surest give-away.

This is a great pity, because a round white neck can be very charming, and it can be kept round and white with very little trouble. It is astonishing how many women will say, when you suggest to them some simply beautifying exercise or treatment: “I haven’t time to do that,’’ and yet these very women will spend fifteen minutes at their mirrors putting on rouge, powder and mascara, when only live of those minutes given to neck or face exercises will bring about youth and beauty to an amazing extent.

Well, here is the first instruction. Take a hand-mirror, and study your neck in a strong light. If your neck does not bear close inspection, then just make up your mind to devote to it, daily, five minutes of special care and treatment.

. Make yourself a lotion to tone and whiten the skin. This lotion should be used after massage. Here is a splendid formula for one, which your beauty specialist will make up for you, or you can make at home yourself: — Best Burma rice, 1 ounce, almond meal, 2 ounces, white gin, 1 ounce, rectified spirit, -} ounce, eau de cologne, i ounce, powdered borax, J ounce, rose water, j ounce.

Wash the rice and boil it in two pints of water until the water is reduced to one pint. Pour this hot over the almond meal. When it is cool strain it, and put into the liquid the borax, dissolved in the rose water. Lastly, add the eau de cologne, gin, and rectified spirit. The neck responds very quickly to massage and exercise. In fact, a scrawny throat and neck can be built up and made round and firm in an amazingly short space of time. Nervous women, and those run down by work aud worry, usually show it by lack of tone in the neck muscles. Neck exercises for these nervy people serve two purposes. They not only build up a beautiful throat, but feed with in-

creased circulation the important nerves at the top of the spine, thereby helping to tone the brain and the whole nervous system. Force the head back as far as possible, and then as far forward on to the chest as you can get it to go. Push it down and keep it so while you count three. Repeat this exercise twenty times. Another equally good exercise is to force the head from side to side, as though attempting to make each car in turn touch the shoulder. Do not raise the shoulder, but make the neck muscles do all the work. Neck massage may be done with the hands covered in a good animal oil skin food, or you may use a flesh brush instead. It is an excellent plan to cover the brush with a thick piece of cotton wool, to put plenty of skin food on this, and with it to knead and thoroughly massage the neck and throat all over. In massaging the neck with the hands, do not just rub the skin, but lift the muscles and flesh, kneading deeply. Do not forget that important little group of nerves at the back of the neck. Place the fingers of each hand just there, and rub briskly as though pulling it from side to side. This will wake the circulation wonderfully, and be like a tonic if you are feeling tired. After you have finished this, rub off all the skin food, sponge the neck with warm water, and then put on the special neck lotion. Slap it on rather than rub it on, or use a small wad of cotton wool to dab it on. Allow it to dry, r.nd then wipe off what remains with a face tissue, A light dusting of face powder may be used afterward, and will help to protect the skin against sun and wind burn. The difference brought about In the beauty of your throat and neck by only’ a few minutes daily of these exercises and this massage has to be seen to be believed. A few weeks of treatment will show you.
