KHANDALLAH AFFAIRS

Progressive Association Meeting The executive of the Khandallah Progressive Association held its monthly meeting in the Parish Hall recently, Mr. M. S. Galloway presiding. The chairman welcomed Mr. French, a recent addition to the executive. A letter was received from the city council stating, in reply to Representations made, that provision had been made on the draft estimates for kerbing and channelling the Khandallah Road, from Ngaio northward. Satisfaction was expressed that this work had already been put in hand.. Following a request to the Railway Department that the departure times of 5.40 p.m. and 12.40- p.m. trains from Thorndon be delayed slightly, the general manager wrote stating that this was impracticable. Users of the 12.40 p.m. train had been consulted and pronounced the present time of departure suitable. The question of a stop being provided about the shopping area when the line was electrified was again discussed. Word was awaited from the general manager as to when he would meet delegates from the association on the site. It was decided to write to the general manager seeking a definite early date for the discussion. The chairman reported upon the result of recent deputations. On A.pril 7 the libraries committee of the city council was met, and the needs of the district in this respect placed before it. The committee was sympathetic, but could promise nothing in the meantime. On April 21 the Postmaster-General was waited upon in reference to improved postal facilities. The department had secured a site, and the Minister stated that he would consult his officers, and give the requests careful consideration. It was resolved to thank Messrs. Wright and Lowry M.P.’s for the district, for their valuable co-operation in this matter. _ . The city council’s attention is to be drawn to the state of the condition of kerbs, channels and footpaths in Simla Crescent, with a request that this work be regarded ns urgent. It was decided to use the Anzac stamps for the association’s business till the end of June.
