RECORD YEAR
Influx of Tourists From Abroad SEEING NEW ZEALAND "This last year has been the best on record for my department,” said Mr. It. W. Marshall, Wellington district manager of the New Zealand Government Tourist Department, addressing members of the Y.M. and Y.W.C.A. Travel Club last night. “More ihan 13,000 overseas tourists visited the country, while records at Rotorua show that 70.000 tourists visited the resort during the year. These figures show the proportion of New Zealanders who are travelling, and getting to know something about their own country." Mr. Marshall went on to say that a man and his wife from overseas had arrived in New Zealand at Christmas, and had not departed until April 9. In Hie interim they had travelled all round both islands, and had taken advantage of the full range of tourist facilities, fishing for trout, salmon, swordfish, and mako shark. These two tourists alone brought £1076 into'Hie country. “Travel is the best investment you can make, because it brings l the best returns,” said Mr. Marshall. “If it gives you nothing else for your money, it gives you health, which is the best thing that you can have in this world.” Mr. A. Height Hunt, who introduced the speaker commented on the value of such talks to “armchair travellers.”
