AMBULANCE WORK ABROAD

Mr. M. Marks to Inquire In moving at the monthly meeting of tlie council of the Wellington Free Ambulance Association yesterday tlm‘. Mr. Marcus Marks be granted six months’ leave of absence, the chairman (Mr. C. J. B, Norwood) said that Me. Marks was leaving mi a trip to the Old Country, aud on behalf of the mem bers of the board, he expressed the hope that it would be a very happy one. They till were aware of Ids keea interest in ambulance work, and appreciated his helpful suggestions. Now that he was going abroad, they were certain that Mr. Marks would take an interest in ambulance work in the varl ous cities visited to the extent of the time he may spare for such matters. There was one point he would like to make. When in London, he (MrNorwood.) had made certain inquiries ns to the system of ambulance traim port there, a system that was wholly free. He would very much like Mr Marks to follow it up, and furnish some report on tlie London system on his return.

At the suggestion of Mr. A. J. McCurdy, Mr. Marks was made the accredited agent or representative of tli“ Wellington Free Ambulance, and was granted the leave of absence desired. Iu reply, Mr. Marks dwelt on the happy time they had spent round the board table, and was gratified at tlie happy tone that accompanied the desire to get rid of him, In his experience of public service, the Free Ambulance board had been the most delight-

ful to be connected with. There were never any petty squabbles, and all were at one in wishing to do the best they could for the benefit of the people without the least consideration for personal reward. He would certainly take the greatest interest in ambulance transport abroad. He thanked everyone for their kind wishes. It would be a great pleasure to meet them all again, Mr. Marks, accompanied hy his two grand-diiughters, is to leave for Sydney to-day by the Monowai, en route to Loudon via. Bucz.
