To Meet Mr. and Mrs. George C. Seers The Palm Lounge of the Hotel St George, with its beautiful floral decorations, was the scene of a elieerv cockt’all party late yesterday afternoon, given by Mr, W. McHardy Forman, to welcome Mr. and Mrs. George C. Seers, who have recently arrived at Wellington, Mr. <Seers having been appointed managing-director of General Motors (N.Z.), Ltd. Dahlias, hydrangeas and gladioli, were used mainly for decoration, the dahlias being artistically arranged in vases, bowls ami pottery jugs, while the blooms were also to be seen in quaint floating bowls on the window ledges. Baskets of hydrangeas were in evidence, and hanging baskets of gladioli in shades of red and fink, and tiger lilies, show ed up vW'dly against tlie cream walls. On tlie many occasional tables were vases of . pom-pom dahlias of varying hues. The large green* palms in their wooden tubs contrasted pleasingly with tlie other decorations, nnd a bright splash of colour was lent by a st'arlef and white Japanese shawl which draped the grand piano In carelesscareful fashion. Cocktails of every description—and tomato juice for those who preferred it —-were handed round by smartiy uniformed waiters, who also saw that the guests were kept well supplied wltii the many tempting savouries anil other delicacies that are part and parcel of the successful cocktail hour, Mrs. Seers wore , a handsome cocktail ensemble of black chiffon, velvet with white fox furs and a black velvet hat. Entertained A very pleasant drive to Point Huiswell in the sunshine of yesterday after noon took the wives of the delegates to the conference of Justices of the Peace, at present sitting In Wellington, to the Borstal Institute, where they spent Hie afternoon in an inspection of the institute anil its surroundings. 'The outing was arranged by a committee of women justices, who have entertained Um visitors since they have been in Wellington.

On arrival, the guests were received by Miss Escott, matron of the Borstnl Institute, who showed them over the building. Pleasure and satisfaction

were expressed at the well-kept surroundings, and tlie happy atmosphere which pervaded among tlie girls, whose work was watched with interest. Afternoon tea, prepared by some of tlie girls, brought the afternoon to a conclusion, and Miss Escott was thanked for her hospitality. Among those who made the visit with tlie four visitors, Mrs. Rosser (Auckland), Mrs. Ott (Invercargill). Mrs. Brougham (Blenheim), and Mrs. Hobbs (Canterbury), were Mrs. J. I. Goldsmith, J.P . “Work-basket” Party

Very novel was the gift party given for an Easter bride-to-be, Miss Janet Steele, last night, when some of her friends greeted her witli useful offerings for the work-basket—phis, needles, cotton and other sewing commodities. The party was given at “Tld'apa," 45 Hobson Street, and Miss Betty Ellis and Miss Jan Sloman were joint hostesses. A most enjoyable evening was siient, several competitions taxing brains, but nevertheless! causing much amusement, mid ninny hands of the popular card game, "rummy.” passing the time very quickly. The table in the lounge, where a buffet supper was handed round, had as its centrepiece a pink and white iced cake, witli tiny figures of a bride and bridegroom, the former complete with flowing tulle, perched on top. AVearing a hostess gown of violet georgette, Mrs. Erreld G. Martin received a number of guests at her home in Bolton Street yesterday at an afternoon party given for Airs. Jacobs, whose husband is Consul-Inspector from M r ashington, DC. The guest of honour was wearing an autumn coat of green, trimmed witli Persian lamb. The guests were entertained in the ai-tts'tic (Irawing-room, where masses of cyclamen dahlias toned with zinnias of similar shades Afternoon ten was served in tlie dining-room, the large table having a quaint silver bowl filled with piuksiiadei] carnations for a centrepiece, while at each corner were green mirrors on which stood china water-lilies.

The garden of Mr. and Mrs. Ewing's home. Glendhu Peninsula, Lake Wanaka, Central Otago, made a picturesque .'letting for the wedding, recently, of their eldest daughter, Mary, to Reginald, youngest son of Dr. mid Mrs. AV. IlStowe, Palmerston North, The bride, wearing an ivory satin gown threaded with gold, closely moulded to the figure, the only fullness being in the pleated sleeves, and a tulle veil edged with lace, and carrying a sheaf of cream gladioli, made a charming picture as she was escorted bj’ her father on to the lawn, where the ceremony was performed by the Rev. 8. A. I. Hurd, of Clyde. The two bridesmaids, Misses Iwta Ewing mid Joan Scaife, were dressed alike in frocks of cream taffeta, with gold girdles anil shoes, pnd cream halo hats'stitched witli gold, mid carried sheaves of gold gladioli. The bridegroom was attended by Mr. .Tolla Bell, Dunedin, las 'best man, and Mr. Donald Sinclair, Clyde, as groomsman. The nuptial music was supplied by Miss Elva Rttsisell, cousin of the bride. The bride's mother, who wore a beige lace gown mid picture hat, and carried a bouquet of padre roses, received tlie guests, who, after the ceremony, adjourned to the marquee for afternoon tea. Later in the afternoon Mr. and Mrs. Reginald Stowe left ou their honeymoon, the bride wearing a powder-blue ensemble with a navy taffeta stitched collar and belt, and navy accessories. In the evening the younger guests were entertained by Aiiss Joan Scaife nt her home, Glendhu Station. Mr. mid Mrs R D. Stowe's futuffc home will be iu Wellington.
