HAWKE’S BAY RIVERS

Rating Boundaries and Representation EXPERT INVESTIGATION A committee is to be set up by the Government to inquire into certain matters in dispute in the Hawke’s Bay rivers district, relating to rating, boundaries of wards, representation and other incidental questions. The Minister of Internal Affairs, Hon. W. E. Parry, explained yesterday that while be was in Napier recently a deputation from the Hawke's Bay River* Board had waited on him asking that these matters be inquired into by an independent tribunal. Following on bis return to Wellington, he had gone into the matter carefully with the local government officers of the Department of Internal Affairs and with Mr. W. IS Barnard, the member for the district, and as a result of the conference he was satisfied that in the particular circumstances of this district, an inquiry as asked for should be held. The committee will consist of three officers who are expert in these matters and competent to make a recommendation to the Government for a fair and equitable adjustment of the points in dispute. The personnel will be announced as soon as final selection has been made. The Minister said that the order of reference would bo made sufficiently wide to enable the points in dispute to be fully inquired into. This also would be made available when it had been finally determined.
