The first crossing of Deiniistouu's Pass, between Canterbury aud Westland, since it was discovered by <J. R. Deunistoun, a surveyor, many years ago, was made by Messrs. A. M. Cookson, ■!. C. Pattle (Erewhou branch of Hie Canterbury Mountaineering Club, Ashburton), and G. Buchanan (Canterbury Mountaineering Club), who returned to Canterbury ou Monday. The trip occupied 11 days, during which the climbers recommit red the divide at the bead of Brie stream, in the upjier reaches of the Rangitata River, and crossed over to Westland, following Dennistoun’s creek and the Perth River Into tbe Wataroa River, coming out about 30 miles north of the Franz Josef Glacier. A great deal of bad weather was met with on the journey.,
