BIG PICTURES IN MAKING

Columbia Productions

SOME OF ATTRACTIONS FOR THIS YEAR

Some notable movie attractions are announced by Columbia Pictures for release during 1936, and a few of the outstanding pictures now being made, or about to be made, were mentioned by Mr. H. Neville, Sydney, Columbia’s sales manager for Australia and New Zealand, who arrived by the Wanganella yesterday. Mr. Neville said, that Miss Grace Moore, the noted film actress and singer, was at present engaged on her third operetta. Her leading man was Franchot Tone, and the cast included Michael Baytlett, of the Metropolitan Opera House, New York, who played a prominent part in. Miss Moore’s recent picture, “Love Me Forever.” Directed by Frank Capra, another important picture was “The Lost Horizon,” in which Ronald Colman had the principal role; “Rolling Along,” a musicale, starring Rochella Hudson, would be one of the highlights of the year’s programme. Another of Columbia’s releases was “No More Yesterdays,” with Ruth Chatterton and Otto Kruger. The noted star, Irene Dunne, wa*s also making a picture for Columbia.

“Taking it all round, 1936 will be one of the finest years that Columbia have ever had so far as productions are concerned,” said Mr. Neville. “It is only about three years ago since the company was considered a good solid company for supporting pictures iu England. To-day it ranks among the major companies in the industry. Columbia’s progress has indeed been remarkable, and ail the stars are very keen to work for it.”

Mr. Neville, who has lived in Australia for seven years, recently returned from England after spending five years with his company in London. On his way back he visited the head office in New York, and also stayed some time in Hollywood, where he saw several Columbia clotures in the making. He met a number of the stars, including Miss Grace Moore, whom he describes as a very, very charming woman.
