Fair at first in most districts; rain developing soon in south.

Following is the weather report and forecast issued yesterday by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, for the 24 hours ending 3 p.m. to-day:— An anti-cyclone is centred east of New Zealand and another covers Australia, while a shallow depression is approaching acioss the lasman nea. Northerly winds, light to moderate at first, but freshening about and south of Cook Strait; a southerly change setting in to-night in the far soutn extending over the Dominion within the next 24 to 36 hours. Seas slight to moderate in New Zealand waters, but rising in Foveaux Strait and later also on the west coast south of Cape Egmont. Moderate northerly winds in the eastern Tasman Sea j n the southern portion, backing shortly to southerlies; seas slight to modulate but ruingWeather fair nt first in most districts, but ruin developing soon in the western and southern portions of the South Island, and scattered falls latei in e. s areas accompanying the southerly change.
