Official Test’ Races and a Challenge
For the first time in the history of speedway racing in New Zealand a team of English riders is to compete on Saturday night against one chosen from this country and Australia in a series of three test matches. Held under the sanction of the English Auto-Cycle Uniou, these will constitute the first official races between the colonies and England. The first test, held at Christchurch last Saturday, resulted in a victory for the colonies by 30 points to 17. The second match is to be run at Wellington on .Saturday, and the final test at Auckland the following week. The teams are as follow : —England: E. Langton (captain), B. Clibbert, >S. Greatrex and,'B. Harrison. Colonies: I). Case (captain) and L. Van Praag (Australia), W. Kilmister (Wellington) and J. Hobson (Christchurch). The combined team is the same as that which won the first test. Tlie contain of the American team at present in New Zealand has issued a written challenge io race a New Zealand team in test matches, and agrees to forfeit all prize money’ in the event ot his team being defeated. His challenge, handed to “The Dominion,” reads: ’lie hereby’ agree to meet the New Zealand team and ride for no prize money in ease we cannot defeat a six-man team jp test matches. — (Signedl I’. .Mossman.'
