GOLF TOURNAMENTS

Inspection of Courses

It was decided at the monthly meeting o£ the New Zaland Golf Association Council, to endeavour to arrange with a professional to report on the courses offering for the New Zealand championship tourney at such time as they are in a suitable condition to be inspected; that is, when they should be in approximately the same condition as they will be in the middle of October. The courses offering are Manawatu, .Hamilton, New Plymouth and Napier, but the first-named has offered to withdraw its application ou certain conditions. The question of inter-area mutches was discussed-, and it was decided to write to one of the principal clubs in each of the areas decided upon at the annual general meeting and ask them whether they consider there would be a good; prospect of organising these matches and whether that club would he willing to sponsor the event for the first year, and also to submit names as nominations for a selection committee for their respective areas. Minutes of a special meeting of the New Zealand Golf. Greens Research Committee, held in December, were confirmed. At this meeting it was agreed to approve, with certain slight amendments, of a scheme put forward by the research committee at Palmerston North, and to agree to the request that an amount not exceeding £4OO a year should be granted by the association toward this work. This will enable the research committee to retain the services of Mr. W. M. Horton, recently of Hamilton, which will be available to clubs requiring a visit at a reasonable rate. , , , The following tournaments have been notified to the association:—Hamner Springs Golf Club, annual contest for Simes Memorial and Bascand Cups, March 20, 21 and 22; Avondale 'Golf Club (Christchurch). Easter open tourney, April 11, 13, 1-1 and 18; Avondale Golf Club (Christchurch), South Island Veterans’ Handicap. (This event will be included in the Easter open tourney on April 11, 13, 1-1 and IS) ; Castlceliff Golf Club (Wanganui), Easter tournament, April 10, 11 mid 13: Manawatu Golf Club (Palmerston North). Easter tournament, April 11, 13 and 14: Napier Golf Club, Easter tournament, April 10. 11 and I<>; Opotiki Golf Club, Easter open tournament, April 10-14: Poverty Bay Golf Club (Gisborne).
