The gannets at Cape Kidnappers continue to attract large numbers of visitors from all parte of New Zealand and this season the running of special buses by the Railway Department has provided the means of transport on Sundays and holidays from Napier and Hastings to Clifton, where the eeven-mile walk along the beach commences. The improvemente carried out by tiie sanctuary board at the sanctuary are much appreciated by visitors, and providing the necessary finance is available it is the intention of the board further to beautify the place by the planting of trees and providing more steps over the steeper parts. A complaint has been received concerning the removal of some eggs from the sanctuary by a party of schoolboys who were accompanied by a teacher. Commenting on this, a member of the board said: “Adults in charge of a party of young people visiting the cape should bear in mind that they are held responsible for any of their party’s actions, and they should take steps to ensure that such incidents as this do not oeeur.” The board intends to prosecute and ask for the severest punishment against offenders in any case of destroying eggs, molesting the gannets or causing wilful damage to the track or any other part of the board’s property
