MATCHES OVER 900 YARDS

Shooting conditions were extremely difficult at Trent ham on Saturday afternoon A rear fishtail wind of varying strentgli called for quick judgment and quick shooting, and so sudden were the changes Hint outers and even complete misses appeared upon almost all the cards returned. Petone Club The Petone Rifle Club fired the final competition counting for the second handicap series, the day's shooting also counting for the Burridge Cup and Longtield aggregate, the range for the day being 900 yards. The 900-yard distance is the longest range fired over by rifle clubs at (Lrentham, and the club standard for each range shoot is 44 out of the possible 50. Several good single range scores were registered, but none of the members were able to return outstanding “tioublesl' R. H. Nicholl and T. Chapman each scored 48, followed by J. Carter and T. B. Richards 47 each, and J. Devine 4G. These were brilliant gun scores under the difficult conditions. R. C. Barkle maije his first appearance this season, and looked like returning top score for the day. He scored 44 on the first occasion, but his last shot in the second shoot was blown off the target, and a possible 47 was defeated. The outstanding aggregates off the gun were secured by R. H- Nicholl and r l. Chapman, with 87 each, followed b.v R* C. Barkle and J. Devine and J. O. Carter, 8G each, J. O, Ashman and W. J. Alclver, 84 each. . The final leading positions in the second handicap series are as follow : - A grade: P. Stewart 275, AV. M. Jackson 272, AV. H. Ballinger 268, T. McNab 2GB, T. AV. AVarburton 267, 0. Pedersen J. C. Ashman 267. B and C grades; J. Devine 275, J. Colquhoun 274. T. F. C00per.269, C. Lusty 263, C. E, Tanner 206. Next Saturday the range will again be 900 yards, the shooting to count tor the Burridge Cup, Longfieid aggregate and for ammunition trophies. Following were the leading scores on Saturday :— 000 900

Suburbs Club The members of the Suburbs Rifle Club advanced another stage in their championship shoot at the 900-yards series. C. Milroy and T. Goodall were the best scorers, and tlie four top men won the club’s silver badges for the week. The following are the scores: —
