SECOND CONCERT
Spivakovsky-Kurtz Trio The second and final concert in Wellington by the Spivakovskys (Tossy and Jascha)' and Edmund Kurtz, the gifted Russians, was given in the Town Hall Concert Chamber last night, when the cordiality of the audience was even more marked than on the opening night. The trio was heard in “Trio in D minor,’’ Op. 49 (Felix Mendelssohn), and the interpretation given of this masterpiece roused the audience to intense enthusiasm. The solo work of the artists also provided a rich musical treat. Edmund Kurtz played the ’cello Sonata in D major, by Locatelli, Jascha Spivakovsky was heard in the bracketed pianoforte numbers, (a) Sonata jn E flat, Op. 81 (Beethoven), and (b) Rondo in G. major, Op. 51. No. 2 (Beethoven), and Tossy Spivakovsky played, among other violin numbers, “Sarabande" (Mouret), “Variation on a There of Corelli” (Tartini), “Aiwa” (Paul Juon), Elgar’s “La Capricieuse” and Paganini's “Caprice, No. 24.” 'The accompaniments were played by Mr. Noel Newson, a young Christchurch pianist of great promise. Encores were the order of the evening, and the audience dispersed witli the fervent hope that it would not be long before this talented trio again visited Wellington.
