NO WIDE GAP

Government and Dairy Board

MARKETING SCHEME

Conferences to Discuss

Details

GUARANTEED PRICE PLAN

"There is no .wide gap between the opinions of the Dairy Board and those of the Government as regards the marketing of dairy products in New Zealand and overseas,” said the Prime Minister, Hon. M. J. Savage, last evening at the conclusion of a Cabinet meeting.

"Indeed, both the Government and the Dairy Board have the same objective in view, and that is simply to secure the best possible results for the producers and the country as a whole,” he added. ' ' , » The Prime Minister explained that members of the board and Ministers had held a conference in the forenoon, when there was a general discussion over the whole question of marketing, but no decisions were made. "We propose,” continued Mr. Savage, "to invite several representatives of the board to meet some members of the Government for the purpose of attacking the details of a marketing scheme. It is merely a question of arriving at a common policy.” Asked as to whether there was any conflict of opinion or outstanding difficulty about the Government’s projected policy of guaranteed prices and local marketing of dairy produce, the Prime Minister said he could see no difiiculty in the way. “We have promised to provide a guaranteed economic price for farmers’ services and also to make provision for selling the surplus overseas,” Mr. Savage added. “I do not see that there is any conflict in that. It is really a question of devising a practical scheme and obtaining the best possible machinery for putting it into effect.”
