Mr. Allan Monkhouse ‘
(Received January 13, 5.5 p.m.) Rugby, January 11. Jlr. Allan Jlonkhouse, critic, novelist and dramatist, who was closely associated with the Repertory Theatre movement in its early days at Jlancliester, Birmingham and Liverpool, died yesterday at his Cheshire home, aged 77. Allan Noble Jlonkhouse, D.Litt., was a member of the editorial staff of the “Jlanchester Guardian” from 1902 to 1932, and continued to write “A Bookman’s Notes” for that journal, until shortly before his death. At first he went into business and later changed to journalism. He was a successful novelist and play-writer, his plays being produced mainly by the Repertory Theatres at Jlanchester, Birmingham and Liverpool and in America. Major H. S. Hornby (Received January 13, 8.25 p.m.) London, January 13. The dentil has occurred of Major 11 B.’ Hornby, who fought with Lawrence iu Arabia and supplied the professional knowledge for the blowing up of railways as recounted in “The Seven Pillars of Wisdom.”
