The Labour Government’s intention to abolish the New Zealand Railways Board has been reiterated by the Hon. R. Semple, Minister of Public Works. He said: “You will realise that at present Cabinet has no power to say that this or that job will be done —owing to the powers conferred on the Railways Board—but I give you the assurance that it will be altered. We are directly responsible for spending the taxpayers* money and we will do it and not share that responsibility with. any unrepresentative body. We have first to get that obstacle out of the road.
