STIFF CORKSCREW WIND

Wellington district defence rifle clubs continued their shooting programmes on the Trentham ranges on Saturday afternoon, when the weather was fine, but a stiff corkscrew wind made accurate marksmanship difficult. Suburbs Club

The members of the Suburbs Rifle Club renewed ' their shooting activities after the holidays with a championship shoot at SOO yards. 11. V. Smith made a good shoot of 93 off the gun. Following are the scores : —

Upper Hutt Club The Upper Hutt Club continued its championship series with a shoot at 800 yards. The best score off his gun was scored by .F. Wilkie, with a fine 45.

Next Saturday the range will be 900 yards. Petone Club The I’etone Rifle Club fired a further competition counting for the Burridge Cup,. Longfield Aggregate and . second series the ranges for the day being 800 yards. The shooting at the SOO yards is usually of a very high standard mid. given reasonable shooting conditions, the standard of -17 is equalled or exceeded on numerous occasions; but on Saturday tall scores were at a premium. T. J. Chapman and P. Stewart headed the list with range scores of 48 each, followed by D. J. Guiney 47 and 45 (second shoot). J. Carter 47, J. Colqnhoun 40 and 45 (second shoot), J. C. Ashman 46. and T. B. Richards 46. D. J. Guiney heads the list off the gun for the day, with 92. followed by J. Colquhouu 91. T. J. Chapman 91, T. W. Warburton S 9. W. H. Ballinger 88, J. C. Carter 88. T. B. Richards 88. With one Saturday to go the leading positions in the second series are as follows:—A grade: P. Stewart 275, W. M. Jackson 272, W. 11. Ballinger 2GS. T. McNab 265. J. C. Ashman 267. O. Pedersen 267. T. Warburton 267. B ami C grades: J. Devine 274, J. Colquhoun 274, T. F. Cooper 269. C. E. Tanner 20-1. C. Lusty 263. Several members have two good counting scores, and the positions may change somewhat as a result of next Saturday’s shooting, when the range will be 900 yards, the day’s shooting to count for the same competitions. Karori Club The Karori Club completed the fourth of its fortnightly ammunition competitions on Satiii'tlny with a match at SOO yards'. The wind was very changeable and quite substantial corrections were required from shot to shot. It. Brady and J. I. King both made excellent scores ol 49 in the first shoot, the former having a nine-bull finish and the latter a sixbull finish. These two competitors win the ammunition prizes for the fortnight, their aggregates being 177 ami 176 respectively. Detailed scores arc—--800 SOO
