CHRISTMAS BOWLS

Wellington Centre Rinks The Wellington Bowling Centre’s annual Christmas rinks tournament will commence on Boxing Day and continue on Friday, Saturday, and Monday. It wili be conducted on lines similar to the corresponding tournaments of previous years. Forty rinks have entered, two fewer than Tast year. AU the entries are from clubs in the Wellington centre except one skipped by W. Bennett, from Thames. Five of the rinks are from the Hutt Valley and Eastbourne, against eight last year, when one section played on Hutt Valley greens. This year greens in the city and nearer suburbs only are to be used. Rinks captained by many of the city’s best-known skips will compete, including last year’s winners, O’Connor, Keech, Tucker, H. Watts (s.), except that Thornley will be lead instead of O’Connor. The runners-up of last year, A. E. Neilson’s rink (Karori), also have entered, with one change in the personnel. Entries for the New' Year pairs will close the day after Boxing Day. Mid-week Pennants When Wellington played Island Bay at Island Bay in the mid-week pennants this week the scores were even after 21 heads had been played. Island Bay scored one point on each of the extra heads played, thus winning. The results in detail are as follow, the Wellington rink being mentioned first in each case: — Turner, Peulington, Thomson, Redmond, 16; Hansen, Boocoek, Dixon, Hart, 16. Smith, Simpson, Laycock, Foot, 21; Wallace, Read, Munro, Duncan, 23.
