a protest against the further incursion of country racing clubs into the metropolitan area, on . the grounds that their meetings were detrimental to business, was recorded at a meeting of the council of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce.' A member pointed out that hotels, restaurants and pieture-houses benefited on such occa.sions, but it was generally agreed that, having regard to the amount of money that was invested on the totalisator, tho greater part of the business community suffered.
