"Across the Centuries,” by T. G. Tucker (Melbourne: University Press).
These pussaces from Greek authors have been translated and collected with the object of dispelling the illusion that Greek literature is stiff'and formal, whereas nothing is farther from the case. The translations are free anti vigorous, though legitimate, and show the Greeks as human beings instea_d of as the wooden effigies of schoolroom “construes.”
The passages include extracts from the Iliad, the funeral oration of Pericles, the death of Socrates, as well as numerous lyrics.
