Millionaire Has to Pay A well-known society, girl, Mlle. Jacqueline Grenier, has, been awarded £l3OO damages by the'Paris courts for breach' of promise and seduction against Count de Sessevalle, the millionaire owner of a luxurious yacht known at all Riviera ports. Mlle. Grenier asked for £5BOO damages because the promised marriage resulted in the birth of a son. Although the court cut the jilted mother’s claim to £l3OO, they awarded an additional £l3 a month for the maintenance of her child until his majority and authorised him to bear his father’s name. The count, the court was told, met Mlle. Grenier as he was planning a long cruise in his yacht. He pleaded his suit and obtained the promise of her hand in marriage. From every port at which his yacht called he wrote love letters to his fiancee, and on his return from his cruise a betrothal party was given at an historic castle belonging to an aunt of the bride-to-be. The count gave his fiancee an engagement ring worth nearly £3OOO. but a month later asked for it back on the pretext that he wished to have it modified by his jeweller. Then be embarked for the Southern Seas. In his absence the child was born, and when his fiancee’s family cabled him asking his intentions, he tersely replied, it was stated, “All is finished, between us.”
