Staff Dance at Ngaio

Ngaio, one of Wellington’s most attractive hillside suburbs, was en fete for the staff dance of the Bell Bus Company. This annual affair is looked forward to with much pleasure by the local residents, and the 1035 effort, judging by the happy faces and the attendance of 200 dancers, surpassed all others.

The Town Hall, always an alluring setting for dancing, excelled itself when draped with the Bell Bus Company's colours of scarlet and blue, and the Maori Melody Makers, catching the festive spirit of the evening, gave of their best.

Among the dancers were: Mr. and Mrs. Norman Bell, the latter in a becoming blue linen daisy-strewn frock, with cherry coloured shoes and bag; Mr. and Mrs. T. H. Eastber, black and scarlet frock; Mr. and Mrs. Barras, midnight blue satin; Mr. and Mrs. H. Gibbons, black frock; Mr, and Mrs. R. W. Stephenson, E. Wilson, Phillips. Hills. Five O’clock Party A delightful five o’clock party was given last Wednesday, when Mrs. John Bowen entertained her friends at her home, Oriental Parade. Mrs. Bowen received her guests wearing a smart cocktail gown of blue and black taffeta. The lounge was tastefully decorated ; with daffodils and anemones. ' .

Staff Dance The staff of John Duthie and Company spent a very enjoyable evening at a dance on Wednesday night. The hall was tastefully decorated, and there were many novelties, including a tap burlesque. The Monte Carlo was won by Mr. G. Robinson and Miss E. Marshall. Mr. D. Robinson was M.C. Blaine, Hadfield, Salt, Small, Wardrop, Donaghue, Tingey, Ramsay. Dance at Palmerston North Dancers from all parts of the Manawatu district—and as far afield as Wellington. Wairarapa, Hawke’s Bay, New Plymouth and Taumarunui—numbering close on .1000 attended the annual ball of Community Stores Ltd., held in the De Luxe Hall at Palmerston North on Wednesday night. The dance hall and lounges were artistically decorated with greenery and festoons of twinkling lights, and the whole scene was one of animated gaiety. Hundreds of balloons and novelties were released from a huge container in the ceiling, adding greatly to the carnival spirit that was abroad. During the evening a trio of crooners from Oiakl entertained, and vocal solos were given by Mr. Nichols and tap dances by Mr. A. Allen.

The duties of M.C. were carried out by Mr. T. Packer. A great deal of credit for the success of the function is due to the tireless efforts of the secretary, Mr. A. D. Jamieson, who had all the arrangements well in hand. Among those present were the patron, Mr. F. S. Goldingham and Mrs. Goldingham, the latter wearing white and black spotted crinkled georgette and white fur coat; Mr. and Mrs, K. A. Goldingham (Wellington), the latter wearing black georgette with silver tinsel thread; the Mayor and Mayoress. Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Mansford, the latter In blue lace with cherry Velvet and lame and white fur evening coat; Mrs. 11. Palmer, black georgette and velvet; Mr. C. A. Mackie (chairman of committee) and Mrs. Mackie, the latter in black velvet and silver lame.

Members of the general committee were: Misses Z. Klee, magnolia velvet; 11. Ansin, margaret rose silk velvet, trimmed with silver lame; G. Gibbs, bottle-green crepe marocain and silver lame; W. Karori Golf Club Ball The Mayfair Cabaret was filled with a spirit of■ light-hearted gaiety last night when the Karori Golf Club held its second annual ball. The bright tables were decorated .with iceland popples, which, with white jonquils, were also used upon the long tables in the supper-room, where a buffet supper was served. During the evening exhibition dances were given, including a Hungarian tap dance by a small girl. The committee responsible for the success of the ball consisted of Miss Muriel Allen, who W'ore a frock of white lace and net threaded with silver, and Messrs. B. Thomson and D. Lawn. Among those present were the president, Air. W. Smith, and Airs. Smith, the latter wearing midnight blue velvet; Air. and Airs. Gunson, Air. and Mrs. S. AVllliams. Air. and Mrs. Dykes, Air. and Airs.
