TUBERCULOSIS
The need for more systematic control over the spread of tuberculosis is further emphasised by a statement in the annual report of the Chief Health Officer to the Wellington City Council. Tuberculosis again showed, he says, the highest incidence of notifiable infectious diseases with 130 cases, as against 97 last year. With continued increases in the notifications of this disease, the work of the department is being steadily increased. Eternal vigilance is required to keep tuberculosis within bounds, and the most practicable method, and the least costly in the end, is the establishment of consultative clinics where, at the earliest suspicion of trouble, examination may be made and advice given as to the course of treatment and the rules of living to he followed. Tuberculosis yields readily to proper treatment if taken in time, but it is exceedingly difficult to deal with in advanced stages, and such is its subtle infectivity that people attacked have a responsibility to the community.
