TARANAKI RACES

Combined Hunts Meeting

FIELDS FOR TO-DAY

Form and Prospects

(Bt

The Watches.)

Winter racing will .be washed up and the decks cleared for the spring meetings with the conclusion of the combined Tarffnaki and Egmont-Wanganui Hunt fixture, which will open at New Plymouth to-day and conclude on .Saturday. Since the inauguration of the combined meetings at New Plymouth, they have been very successful, and fields for the opening day promise another successful gathering. A particularly good contest is promised in the principal event, the Hunt Cup, which includes the best hunter of the season. Prosy Boy, fresh from his victory at Pakuranga. The other hunters’ events are also well filled, a pleasing feature at a meeting which is essentially one to encourage that class. Events for open and hack flat racers are also well filled, and particularly keen racing is promised. The track will be heavy, and except 'where hunters’ form is fairly well exposed, the task of backers will not be easy. Betting will be on the win-and-place system. The following horses may be well supported in their engagements:— « Trial Hunters’ Steeplechase.—Croydon. Red Bray, and Flockhart. . . Weraroa Scurry.—'Lady Hoanri, Joy Box and Red Sand. % Whenuakura Hack.—. Sporting Song, Tabtirangi. and Prince Reno. Egmont-Wanganui Hunt Cup.—Prosy Bov. Petrarch and Miss Pango.
