FARMERS’ INCOME
Dairy “Bonuses” Explained
By Telegraph.—Press Association.
Carterton, August 28.
At the annual meeting of the Dalefield Co-op. Dairy Co., Ltd., held at Carterton yesterday, the following motion was passed:—
“That in view of the many newspaper reports of bonuses being paid to dairy-fanners, we wish to draw attention to the following facts: (1) These so-called bonuses are in reality deferred payments. (2) That the total payment to farmers this season is really less than last year (admittedly an unfinancial year). Dalefield, for instance, while paying a total of 10 5-Bd. per pound butterfat (well above the Dominion average) is actually distributing approximately £llOO less among a slightly larger number of suppliers. (3) It is estimated that the total income of farmers generally will be down this year approximately £5,000,000.”
