Figures For July Show

Increase

The shipping and cargo statistics for the month of July, when compared with the returns for July of last year, showed an increase in the net tonnage of vessels arriving and in the tonnage handled, the chairman, Mr. T. R, Barren, reported at a meeting of the Wellington Harbour Board last night. The shipping arrivals totalled 305,114 tons compared with 286,682 tons, an Increase of 18,432 tons. The tonnage handled showed an increase in imports from coastal and Australian ports of 4103 tons. General cargo transhipped decreased by 1274 tons. There was an increase in the wool handled of 4061 bales, and exports of butter, cheese and frozen meat showed a decrease of over 2000 tons. The total increase, after allowing for the drop in exports, amounted to 1314 tons.
