Strong Sale at Timaru

Judging by the prices obtained at Timaru’s supplementary wool sale today, at which .1890 bales were offered, growers should have a greater feeling of optimism as to the future market, values recorded at similar recent sales in the north being fully realised. There was a representative bench of buyers ami keen competition resulted for any fine fleece and fleece wools, while good prices were obtained for three-quarter crossbred fleece. Fine crutchings were on a par with recent sales. Fine fleece wool generally showed a rise of 21d. to 31d., while there were isolated eases of an even greater advance. Prices for fine wool were 2d. to 3d. ahead of the March sale. Top price, T3ld., was obtained for two lots of half bred and a lot of comeback, this representing an increase of Id. on the Christchurch sale. Values were:— Merino, lid. to 13d.; fine halfbred. lid. to 13jd.; medium halfbred, lOd. to 12d.; three-quarter-bred, 7d. to IOJd.; fine crossbred, 6d. to Sid.; strong crossbred, CJd. to Tjd.; halfbred neckpieces, IOJd. to 121 d.; merino pieces, lOd. to 12d.; halfbred pieces, od. to lOd.; three-quarterbred pieces, -lid. to 7Jd.; crossbred pieces, 4d. to old.; halfbred crutchings (extra good), to SJd.; halfbred crutchings (average to good), od. to Gid.; three-quarterbred crutchings, .’ld. to Tel.: crossbred crutchings, Jld. to Gid.; lambs’ crutehings (including half and three-quarter-bred), -Id. to ojd.
