The second round of the match play in the amateur and professional golf championships of Australia was played to-day, and resulted: Amateur championship: 11. Hattersley beat Sloan Morpeth, 4 and 3; J. Ferrier beat. A. Jackson, 4 and 2; Crook beat Wright, 4 and 3; Rymill beat Duffy at the thirty-eighth. Professional championship: F. MacMahon beat R. Stewart, 3 and 2; V. Richardson beat C, Gray, one up; W. Bolger bent M. Smith, 3 and 1 : Boorer beat G. Naismith, 2 and 1.
BRITISH PAIR WINS
Women’s Foursomes Event (Received August 27, 10.20 p.m.l Melbourne, August 27. The visiting team of Britisli women golfers easily defeated the Australians in the women's foursomes championship over 36 holes. It was the visitors’ first appearance in important competitive events in Australia. Leading scores were: Miss J. B. Walker and Miss Pam Barton (Great Britain), 82-81-163; Miss W. Greenlees and Miss I’. Wade (Great Britain). 80-84-164.
Tlie best Australian score was that of Mrs. Sloan Morpeth and Miss S. Tolhurst (Victoria), 86-84-170. The visitors won by superior length though their putting was not exceptionally good.
