DAY OF LOW SCORES
South African Cricketers Meet Sussex PLAY ON SOFT WICKET London, August 26. After rain had-prevented play on the first day, the cricket match between South Africa and Sussex was commenced to-day. The tourists had first use of a soft wicket and they might have been dismissed cheaply had Sussex seized all the chances that were presented to them. The opening pair, Mitchell and Viljoen, were-soon disposed of, as also was Wade, who was accounted for by the two Langridges. Rowan and Nourse made a useful stand, but the bowlers were always on top. until Langton and Dalton became associated in a partnership which added 69 runs for the seventh wicket. The innings finally closed for 218, Tate and J. Parks having taken three wickets each. Sussex also found runs hard to get when they commenced their reply, and at stumps they had scored 58 runs for the loss of four wickets. Details:—
