GOODWILL MORE VITAL THAN TRADE

International Friendship

JAPANESE MISSION AT DUNEDIN By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, August 27 The value of a better understanding between Japan and New Zealand was emphasised to-day at various functions attended by Mr. Katsuji Debuehi, Leader of the Japanese Goodwill Mission. While the importance of increasing the trade between the two countries was touched on, the fact was stressed that international friendship and peace depended more on the human basis of goodwill than on the amount of goods exchanged between one nation and another. Mr. Debuehi and the members of liis mission had a busy day. Following the laying of a wreath at the base of the War Memorial, Mr. Debuehi drove to the Town Hall, where a civic reception was extended to him by the Mayor, the Rev. E. T. Cox. Leter he was entertained at lunch, eon by members of the Chamber of Commerce, and in the afternoon he was taken for a drive round the city by the Mayor. In the evening Mr. Debuehi was the guest at a civic “At Home” in the Town Hall.
