Wellington Rep. Team To
Meet Hawke’s Bay
The Wellington Rugby League team to meet Hawke’s Bay on Saturday is as follows:—Full-back, Kearns (Bandwick) ; live-eighths, L. Elliott, Atkins (Central) ; three-quarters, A. Brown (Kandwick), Scorringe (Petone), Gladding (St. George); half, O’Connor (St. George); Forwards, Pilcher (Petone), Wright (St. George), Coutts (St. George), Gunn (Central), Yule (St. George), Berry (Central). Emergencies: backs, Todd (Kandwick), Merson (Central) ; forwards, Moisley (St. George), Kreyl (Petone). The team is a much stronger one than represented Wellington in the game against Richmond a few weeks ago, there being nine new players, most of these being well-known recruits from Union. Berry has been appointed captain and O’Connor vicecaptain. - Board of Control.
Mr. V. M. Simpson (chairman), presided at a meeting of the Board of Control last evening. Matters in connection with the visit of the Hawke’s Bay team were finalised and Mr. J. .Murphy, the manager of the team, was present. • Representatives for the Referees Association, and also the Randwick club, waited on the board and offered suggestions for the improvement of the code. Thanks were extended for the interest taken in Rugby League matters. It was decided to play Petone-Rand-wick as a curtain-raiser to the big fixture on Saturday, Mr. Lesley to be the referee. Mr. Simpson was appointed referee for the representative game, the line umpires being Messrs. O’Grady and Lesley. Arrangements were made for the visit of Auckland on. Saturday week.
