N.Z. Flax Woolpacks

Sir,—ln view of the remarks made by Air. AV. Bromley, deputy chairman of the Unemployment Board, when addressing the Invercargill Central Unemployment Executive recently, the following letter we received from the New Zealand AVoolpack and Textiles, Ltd., makes very interesting reading:—"l wish to thank you for your letter of the 30th July, asking us to quote you for 48-inch woolpacks, and I have to advise you that the sales policy, of this company is to sell direct to members of the AVqol Brokers’ Association only, and I therefore regret that I cannot quote you for supplies.” This letter was signed by the acting secretary. Merchants, other than members of the AVool Brokers’ Association, cannot purchase their supplies of packs direct from the manufacturers, as the latter have given the AVool Brokers’ Association a monopoly over their output, and yet we are asked to support local industry ! It is to be hoped the New Zealand Woolpack and Textiles, Ltd., will alter this policy and give all cash buyers the same opportunity of purchasing their requirements direct from the companv.— I am, etc.,

MERCHANT Hawke s Bay, August 19.
