JEWELLER’S LOSS

Burglary Revealed by Fire

By Telegraph — i'ress Association Wliangarci, August 26.

An outbreak of fire late last night in the shop of Julius Maurer, jeweller, Cameron Street, led to the revelation of a daring burglary, a number of valuable articles having been taken. The intruders used a jemmy to enter through a window and a heavilybarred door.

The fire brigade found the shop floor bestrewn with art icles of jewellery and a smouldering mattress alongside the door of the strongroom, which the thieves failed to force, thereby missing a rich haul of goods and a deposit of £l5O belonging to a radio dealer next door. Considerable damage was done to the stock in the shop by fire, water, and smoke.
