Wanganui Withdraws From

Although the Wanganui Hockey Association had made every effort to overcome a number of difficulties in the nay of sending a tiam to the Zealand women's hockey tournament at Gisborne, official information of the withdrawal ot the team’s .-ntry from the tournament was received last night. The Marlborough womens hockey representative team to compete at the tournament, opening at Gisborne next Friday, will arrive in Wellington to-day. and continue on the journey by to-morrows Napier express, arriving in Napier in the evening, where transport, arranged by the Poverty Bay Hockey Association, will convey the party on to Gisborne the same evening. ’ ’ L ... All the contests were fought in an excellent sporting spirit and Gene Tunney. former world's heavyweight champion, refereed the fignts admirably. The tournament attracted an attendance of 48.000. a record for an amateur boxing event in America. The Amateur Boxing Association gave a celebration dinner in London on July 22.
