Wellington College, who won out in a match against Nelson by 14 points to 8, were co-runnors-up with Christ’s College. Owing to rain the matches were played on Spriggens Park. Before play begau the weather cleared and the sun came out, making conditions ideal. The ground was in good order and the attendance was over 3000. The first match was between Nelson and Wellington. Nelson commenced at bewildering pace and soon had an 8 points lead, the result of good back play. Mitchell, Maxwell and Grindle featured in the first move, the last-named scoring for McLaren to convert. Then Bailey put in a fine sideline dash and crossed. Toward the end of the first spell Wellington, combining well in the backs under the guidance of Ongley, theig captain, and backed up by the forwards, had Nelson hemmed to its line and in a forward melee Doull went across for a try. Wellington opened the second half with zest. The backs were throwing the ball about and Bradley, Ongley and Packnail were giving Nelson a lively time. Judicious play by the Wellington backs sawMeArthur cross, fi’hen Alexander goaled from a penalty and Wellington were in front, 9-8. Nelson suffered two casualties, losing Dodsun and Ward, who were replaced. Later Packnail scored for Wellington, Alexander goaling, and the game encied: Wellington 14, Nelson 8. The Wellington side nlayed much more impressively than it did against Christ's College on Saturday. The Wanganui-Christ’s College game produced colourful play and was sternly contested in both spells. Wanganui’s points in the first spell were from a penalty goal by Meuli. In the second spell Christ’s had Wanganui penned to its line for ten minutes, but failed to cross. Getting the ball in the scrums, the Wanganui backs played impressively, and a back movement saw Dermer score. Wanganui was definitely on top in the closing stages. Sherratt scored the fin'al try, the game ending in victory for Wanganui by 9 points to nil. Ryan and Fullerton-Smith (forwards) and Dernier an« Meuli iu the backs were the pick of Wanganui. TIMARU HIGH SCHOOL BEAT SOUTHLAND

By Telegraph.—Press Association Timaru, August 26.

In the annual match to-day. Timaru Boys' High School scored a runaway victory over the Southland Boys’ High School by 44 points to 3. The Timaru fifteen were much heavier all round, aud too fast for the visitors, who battled gamely. Southland were superior in set scrums, but the fast Timaru forwards consistently smothered the visiting fiveeighths, who had a gruelling time. Timaru scored twelve tries, tho majority the result of slashing hack movements, but had an off-day in goalkicking, only four tries being converted. The superiority of the Timaru team was evidenced 'by the fact that the full-back, who was the captain, scored two tries. The ground was very hard, due to an absence of rain over a long period, and the visitors were not accustomed to the conditions encountered. TECHNICAL SCHOOLS’ TOURNEY By Telegraph.—Press Association. Invercargill, Angus’ 26. In the final game in tho South Island technical colleges’ tournament to-day. Southland defeated Christchurch at Rugby by 11 points to S. I’he teams were well matched, but the smaller southland forwards showed greater dash. For Sojithland Beck, Rogers mid West scored fries, Rogers converting one. For Christchurch Dini and Marding scored tries, Murray converting one. PRIMARY SCHOOLS Tourney Continued at Carterton Dominion Special Service. Carterton, August 26. The Wellington district primary schools quadrangular Rugby tournament was continued in beautiful weather at the Carterton Showgrounds this afternoon, when Walrarapa created a surprise b.V defeating Wellington by 5 points to 3. The first game, between Wanganui and Manawatu, resulted in a draw, each team scoring six points, although Manawatu had much the better of the game until the last 15 minutes.

During the first half Manawatu was all over Wanganui, who seemed unable to get going. The Wanganui team lacked the finish which was displayed in Saturday's game, while Manawatu came t<> light with many pretty movements. This was especially the case among the forwards. From the majority of the scrummages the Manawatu forwards broke away quickly, and the Wanganui backs were continually out of position. At time Manawatu was leading by 6 points to nil, Hiekey and Hunt each scoring unconverted tries. On resuming Manawatu again led the offensive until about !•] minutes before time, when, Wanganui came to light and scored twice in fairly rapid succession, both tries being obtained by James. Putting up an astouudingly good defence Wairarapa defeated Wellington in the second game. For the first twenty minutes Welliugton was the only team in the' picture, but although they hammered away at the Wairarapa defence, the latter held out in fine style. Wairarapa then found their feet, aud the rearguaru came to light with many good movements. Toward the end of the first spell Rayner broke through the Wellington defence to score a neat try. which Paget converted, giving Wairarapa a 5-nil lead at halttime. Just before half-time Brooks (Wellington) was -taken off with a dislocated shoulder. Bentley replacing him. Hurley and Paget tackled exceptionally well for Wairarapa during the first spell, when, in one particular case. Welch and Tso-Yu-Jim associated in n splendid passing rush, and a certain try was stoppe<l by a brilliant (lying tackle by Hurley. Early in the second spell Bramley scored for Wellington from a good forward rush, AllwooJ’s kick failing. From then on Wellington hHd a territorial advantage, much as they had done in the first spell, but again the Wairarapa defence proved impenetrable. During the final five minutes Wairarapa brightened and launched a series of attacks, but to no avail Paget, the Wairarapa skipper, was taken off with an injured ankle just before t'me. Mr. J. Blake refereed both games. The final matches of the tournament will be plaved at Grevtown on Wednesday afternoon, when Wanganui will play Wairarapa and Wellington Manawatu. The game between Wairarapa and Wanganui should be particularly interesting. as each district is equal for the banner as regards the number of wins.
