The -South African cricketers commenced a two-day match against Northumberland to-day. Scores are:—-

Northumberland, 19S (Lee 50, McKay 4G; Crisp six for 41, Langton two for 47). South Africa, 203 for four wickets (Rowan 50, Nourse 52).

Holmes Accepts Captaincy

11. was announced from Lord’s that E. It. T. Holmes had accepted the captaincy of the M.C.C. team which is to tour New Zealand and also play matches in Australia.

TEAM FOR INDIAN TOUR

Seven Australians Barred

The Cricket Board of Control has reached a decision concerning players for Mr. Frank Tarrant’s team for India. The board barred seven players —Kippax, Chilvers, Oxenham, Rigg. Woodfull, Ponsford and Nitscbke — while the following 12 were approved: J Ryder, 11. Ironmonger, A. Allsopp, C. Macartney, 11. Hendry, J. Ellis, T. Leather, 11. Love, R. Bryant, RMorrisby, L. Nagel and 11. Alexander. Mr. Tarrant intends to take 15 players on tour.
