BILLIARDS DISPLAY

Lindrum and McConachy

It was very refreshing to ’Walter Lindrum and Clark McConachy to find, when they continued their billiards match last night in the Y.M.C.A. buildings, Willis Street, that the room was crowded. The audience, too, was appreciative of the great variety of shots played, and applauded breaks which, if not big, as one associates big breaks with these two world-famed players, were far beyond what anybody else except two or three other players in the world could make. At “time” last night McConachy was In play with an unfinished break of 130. His other breaks were 378, 254, 201, 196, 167, Lindrum’s best breaks were 346, 305. 263, 186, 114. The game score was: Lindrum, 6291; McConachy (in play). 5380. As in the previous sessions. 1 both Lindrum and McConachy played'a snooker game (Lindrum won last night), and afterwards gave instructional talks on, and demonstrations of, the correct method of practising billiards strokes ana potting. . Lindrum showed how to play losing hazards, bringing the ball back to a circle (he called it the “magic circle ’) which he had chalked on the talble. He showed also how to play “screw cannons,” to “screw” in off, and to play run-throughs. McConachy, who was assisted by Mrs. McConachy. showed the best way to pract:se potting for snooker. Mrs. McConachy demonstrated that she is no mean exponent of the art of pot-ting. Play will be continued at 3 ©clock this afternoon and at 8 o’clock to-night.
