Fight With Shop Manager

Theft of a bolt of cloth from outside a shop iu Manners Street and a fight with the manager led to George. Henry O Brien, a labourer, aged 52, being sentenced to a mouth’s imprisonment with hard lah? ur by Mr. E. D. Mosley, S.M., iu the Wellington Magistrate’s Court yesterday. Accused pleaded guilty to the charge ot having stolen the roll of cloth, valued at £l/19/-, the property of Wolfe Black. Sub-lnspeetor C. E. Roach, proseeuting, said that shortly before 3 p.m. on Wednesday accused had stolen the cloth. He had been seen by a bystander, amt chased bv the manager, with whom ne had fought. Two young men had come to the manager’s assistance and had held O'Brien until the arrival of Constable Waite. O’Brien was on sustenance, and was an old thief, although he had not been before the court lor theft since 1925. O'Brien explained that he had been under the influence of drink at the time.
