BILLIARDS MATCH

Lindrum and McConachy Continue TRICK SHOT EXHIBITION A'esterdny afternoon and last night AValtcr Lindrum and Clark McConachy continued their billiards match, giving a good exhibition of all kinds of shots. Losing hazards into the top and centre pockets played a great part in the massing of breaks. McConachy using them more than Lindrum, who preferred nursery cannons. There was a great variety in the types of shot played, but apart from some excellent masses and screw shots, little spectacular play was used. Both players made the most of small -nursery cannons to get good position for a series of losing hazards, and this combination was repeatedly used round the top cushion. It could be plainly seen that the players had two aims in each shot—making the shot, and securing good position for the next. In all difficult shots, in addition to getting good position for the following one the balls were left in such a position as to make it difficult for the opponent to score. One way, which was used repeatedly, was to leave the striker’s ball over a pocket, so that if the opponent scored he could not use the white without losing it, and the break with one ball would probably.be short. Lindrum made several good losing hazards by screwing back, sometimes three or four feet, along the cushion. Most of the breaks ended with swift attempts at half and three-quarter ball, losing hazards from baulk, the ball fouling the jaw of the pocket, Lindrum's best breaks yesterday were 184. 593, 119. 124, 222, and 143 (unfinished). McConachy’s best were 386 (concluded), 356, 168, 194, and 181. At the close of play Lindrum (in play) was 4940 and McConachy 3859. McConachy won the game of snooker, again making good use of position play. After this, demonstrations were given by both Lindrum and McConachy. who showed how to bring off masses, screws, six and seven cushion cannons, and. in addition to trick shots, they gave some useful advice on some of the more simple aspects of the game. McConachy suggested and demonstrated a series of prac-tice-shots for the amateur desirous of improving his game.
