NOT A THREAT

Nada Club’s Assurance to Soccer Committee PLAYERS’ DIFFICULTIES The assurance that there was no intention b.v the Nada club to threaten the association was made by Messrs. J. Walton and R. Robson, chairman and secretary respectively of the club, last night when they appeared before a meeting of the management committee ot the Wellington Football Association to explain what was meant by a letter forwarded to th- previous meeting. The letter stated that players of the second B division team were not prepared to travel out of town, and that they would not travel to Woburn to play a game there. Members of the committee interpreted that as a threat to the association, but after hearing the explanation last night the chairman. Mr. W. 15. Hicks, expressed the opinion that the committee would think differently. Mr. Robson said he failed to see that the club was threatening the association. It was the last thing it thought of doing. He pointed out that, a number of the players were unemployed and could uot afford to travel.

Mr. Hicks reminded the club’s representatives that unemployment was not peculiar to the Nada club, and said the committee felt that if clubs would only pick out the matches that suited them the committee would uot be able to run a competition. It was not the club that was taking that stand; it was the players, said Mr. Walton. The letter was a statement of fact, and not a threat. Apparently the players were not very keen, commented Mr. Hicks, who said he wondered if they could not be disciplined. The second team was not keen, agreed Mr. Walton, who added that they bad to be enticed to play. “I am sure members think differently of the club in view of your explanation,” Mr. Hicks said, as the chairman and secretary withdrew. "Mure Than We Can Get.” "It is more than we can get,” said Mr. <l. Al. Coleman, when a letter was received from the Canterbury association stating that applicatiou had been made for a commentary of the match between Wellington and Canterbury at English Bark. "It is very nice to see the Broadcasting Board in Canterbury taking an interest iu the game to that extent,” said the chairman. Air. J. J. Kean was appointed manager of the Wellington team. Permission was granted the Institute First A eleven to play a Alasterton side on August 10 at Alasterton. It was decided to bring to the notice of the Hospital club that a letter had been received from a referee alleging ungentlemanly conduct against one of the club’s players last Saturday. "I had to pull him up two or three times for tripping, and every time hg wanted to argue with me,” the letter from the referee stated. “Apparently it was not sufficient to send him off,” commented the chairman. Mr, Coleman reported that arrangements for an excursion train to go to Auckland next month tor the North Island final of'the Chatham Cup were going very well, and he was hopeful if 25 or 39 more applications for seats were received, the excursion would eventuate. It would he necessary, he said, to get all the applications in by Wednesday morning. The Referees’ Association wrote complaining of teams defaulting. Air. J. Duncan stated that one referee had been let down by clubs six Saturdays running. It was decided to send the complaint on to the clubs concerned. Fixtures and Transfers. Fixtures for Saturday week were arranged as follow: — First A Division: Hospital v. Marist, Basin Reserve No. 1; Petone v. Lower Hutt, Hutt Recreation Ground; Swifts v. Diamonds (friendly).
