MILK FOR CHEESE
Te Rehunga Pay-out Basis
The Te Rehunga cheese factory, Dannevirke, the output of which for the 1934-35 season was 595 tons, has decided by the unanimous vote of its directors to pay out on the “cheese test” system as devised by Mr. P. O. Veale, dairy scientist, for milk for cheese-mak-ing. This now method of payment is to come Into force for the 1935-6 season.
Mr. Veale's system is as follows: — “The butterfat percentage and the casein percentage of each supplier’s milk are determined and then from a table prepared by Mr. Veale the quantity of cheese made from 1001 b. of each supplier’s milk is found. Payment is then made at per pound of cheese manufactured from that milk.”
