The disturbances at Lahore occasioned by ihe dispute between the Sikh and Mohammedan communities regarding Ihe ownership of a temple were the subject of a question in the House of Commons to-day, in reply to which the Under-Secretary for India, Mr. R. A. Butler, stated that fresh trouble had broken out during the week-end. Large crowds of Moslems, assembling with the object of proceeding to Shohidganj Gurdwara, had. assumed a violent attitude toward the police, and despite charges by police and mounted police refused to disperse. Firing became necessary on two occasions on Saturday after all other efforts to disperse (he crowd had failed and after a warning had been issued Ity magistrates and again on three occasions on Sunday. In all, 23 rounds were tired, and the number of killed is reported as not more than 10.

Mr. Butler added that it was reported that the situation was under control, and responsible .Moslems wre doing their best to persuade their co-religion-ists to desist from defiance of the law. Messages from Lahore indicate that the peace efforts are continuing and that the situation is well in hand. TROUBLE SPREADS Disorders in Another Town Bombay, July 22. The communal unrest has spread to Maier Kotin, 110 miles from Lahore, where 5000 Moslems attempted to interfere with Hindu worship. They were prevented by the police, who made 1200 arrests.
